# Savings goal calculator: how much to save each week or month

This free savings goal calculator works out how much to save each week, every two weeks or each month to reach a target by a date. Enter the target, what you have saved and the deadline. For example, $3,000 over 12 months is $250 a month.

## How does the savings goal calculator work?

It subtracts what you have saved from the target, counts the whole weeks, fortnights or months until the deadline, and divides the remaining amount by that count. The result is rounded up to the next cent so you never fall short.

*Worked example: a $3,000 goal over 12 months with nothing saved*

## Can I link straight to a result?

Yes. The calculator reads its inputs from the web address, so a link like /savings-goal-calculator?target=3000&saved=500&date=2027-10-31&every=month opens with those numbers filled in. The accepted parameters are target, saved, date (YYYY-MM-DD), every (week, fortnight or month) and currency (a three-letter code such as USD).

## How many contributions are in a year?

## What does the calculator leave out?

It does not add interest and it does not know your budget. It gives you an even split of what is left.
